Visiting Dolphin Cove on the northernmost part of the Florida Keys - Key Largo is a day you won't forget.
From the moment you start swimming with the dolphins is the moment where all your dreams come true..it's truly magical.
Dolphin Cove is based on a five-acre lagoon in Key Largo.
Although the swimming with the dolphins is an obvious highlight, that is just one of the fantastic things it can offer.
If you do want to swim with the bottlenose dolphins then it must be known that you do have to be aged 7 and older, and if younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The floatation devices that they provide will hold you up, but you need to know how to swim because you will have to move around in the water.
And although you may want to swim with our underwater friends, the fear of meeting Jaws, may put you off (a great fear of mine after seeing Jaws - I didn't even like to take a bath :).
Well don't worry as the area is enclosed from the full ocean, which makes it nice and safe to enjoy the moment.
And isn't that why you came in the first place?
Before you get in the water with "Flipper" you will be taken on a 30 minute boat ride across the waters of the backcountry, where you will get a briefing about dolphins and all the things that you will experience when you get up close and personal.
Dolphin Cove also offers a Natural Swim dolphin encounter, which means that it is a freestyle snorkel program.
If you want to get up to speed with snorkeling techniques before you visit then check out our great list of recognised experts who can show you the way here.
You maybe thinking "What is a Natural Swim Dolphin encounter?"
We'll this simply means that unlike the Seaworld dolphins that will leap out of the water and perform for the delight of the watching crowds, the dolphins at dolphin cove will not exhibit any trained behaviours.
They will instead choose to swim freely and interact with any of their human visitors.
The age for this encounter is slightly different and participants must be at least 8 years of age, and if younger than 13 accompanied by an adult.
Ecological Tours Of The Everglades
The attraction can also offer a guided ecological tour of the Everglades National Park backcountry waters and Florida Bay.
During the tour you will learn a great deal about what goes on within the mangrove habitat, and is a great addition to your time at the attraction.
If you are into your nature then you can also undertake such interesting trips as guided snorkel trips, kayak tours, sunset cruises and even (if you are brave enough) go looking for crocodiles at night-time.
If you fancy any of these additional excursions then it would be advised to phone the place and make the arrangements.
If this is something that you are interested in then when you leave Dolphin cove make sure that you pay a visit to the Fascinating Eco-Discovery Center down in the southernmost island of Key West.
It's free to get in, and really is a great place to find out more about the fragile eco-system that surrounds the Florida Keys.
